massage focussed on pain relief

For clients who have injuries or who suffer from chronic pain, we take a slightly different approach employing advanced therapeutic techniques, including Deep Tissue, Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT), and Clinical Sports Massage. In a Deep Tissue or NMT session, we may spend the entire session focussing on the particular problem area and associated muscles to encourage natural healing responses in the body.

Common conditions that can be addressed include whiplash and other neck injuries, thoracic outlet syndrome, carpal tunnel syndrome, TMJ dysfunction, headaches, low back pain and sciatica, and upper/lower extremity pain.

deep tissue

A Deep Tissue approach uses an advanced knowledge of the musculature to thoroughly search specific muscles known to be associated with common conditions. Deep, specific cross fiber and stripping strokes along with static pressure are used to focus down to the level of individual muscle fibers to release spasms, fascia and muscle adhesions, and to promote circulation of blood and oxygen. At the end of each session, stretches are used to "re-train" the impacted muscles.

neuromuscular therapy (nmt)

NMT is a type of soft tissue therapy designed specifically for relief of chronic pain from injuries due to physical trauma, repetitive movements, muscular overuse and postural abnormalities. In an NMT session, we will search out and release trigger points, a common cause of chronic pain. Chronic pain mechanisms can be disabled by applying, deep static pressure to the trigger points, which cause a physiological response in the neuromuscular systems that can inhibit pain and break the pain-spasm-pain cycle.

Common pain patterns, which have been mapped, are associated with specific trigger points, sometimes located remote to the area of pain, and therefore often missed in treatment. A P-ball, a tool designed specifically for NMT, is often utilized to do more specific and focused trigger point work.

This work has proven to be extremely effective. Clients with chronic pain report being pleasantly surprised by the profound results from receiving an NMT session. I invite you to experience this exciting advanced therapy.

clinical sports massage

Clinical sports massage addresses common injuries that effect athletes along with anybody who uses or overuses their body. Clinical sports massage is for identifying and treating specific muscles, tendons, and ligaments for conditions such as adhesions, trigger points, and tendonosis Pre- and post-event sports massage is a separate modality, and at this time I do not offer sessions in these areas.

In a clinical sports session, we employ deep tissue, nmt, and passive and active stretching. We may also discuss stretches you can do at home.

"After regular sessions, my chronic shoulder and knee pain are under control and I am back on the basketball court again. I am totally sold on neuromuscular therapy."
